Bluetooth won't turn back on once off

After a restart, bluetooth works perfectly, however if you turn off bluetooth and then put the computer to sleep, the indicator is no longer in in the switchboard panel. You can access bluetooth settings via the settings app, but this just says bluetooth is enabled and then that it can't find any devices. Only way I have managed to get it to work again is just to reboot and then keep bluetooth on.
