Laptop unable to boot installed OS after trying out OS 8.0 (in try/demo mode)

### What Happened?

After trying out elementaryos-8.0-stable.20241025rc on a laptop with elementary OS 7.x installed, the installed OS (7.x) is no longer able to boot.

### Steps to Reproduce

1. Boot from a USB drive loaded with OS 8
2. Go into "Try without installing" mode
3. From the booted OS 8 desktop, choose to shutdown
4. Remove the installation media and press ENTER when prompted
5. Press the start button on the laptop to boot up the installed OS
6. The screen goes black after the grub menu and nothing happens after that

### Expected Behavior

The installed OS boots up
