'Log Out' entry in the applications menu causes a ~90 second hang, 'Lock' entry does nothing at all

### What Happened?

Neither the 'Log Out' or 'Lock' entries in the applications menu function correctly.

Attempting to log out causes the system to hang, showing a black screen for about 5 seconds, then showing only the desktop background and mouse cursor (no panel or dock) for about 80 seconds, before the log out finally completes.

Attempting to lock the screen simply does nothing.

### Steps to Reproduce

1. Open applications menu
2. Type 'Log Out' or 'Lock, press enter

### Expected Behavior

Both options should behave correctly, as they do when triggered from the power icon in the panel, or by keyboard shortcut.

Advice on how to produce logs for this particular issue would be appreciated.
