Edits slowly flip back and forth between edited & original state.

### Steps to reproduce

1. Send a message
2. Edit it (perhaps while it's still sending)
3. Watch as you get a nice local echo for the edit
4. Then, a few seconds later, it suddenly reverts to the unedited state (presumably the original remote echo arriving?)
5. Then, a few seconds later, it eventually reverts back to the edited state (presumably the edited remote echo arriving):

Edits shouldn't flap around.

#### What happened instead?

Since build 847 this seems to happen more frequently - roughly 50% of the time, and it's much slower as it flaps.
