Description

### Steps to reproduce

1. Where are you starting? What can you see?
In the room synapse admins (!ehXvUhWNASUkSLvAGP:matrix.org) for example, the timeline wont load further than event:$V2_ClVw9DRb3LiFKRvKZF26GP14g33o8xpLqEGuMHgI, my guess is, that the event $2qtgCBwUhu_PDsBLacdNPzmGJoP156q98-3kYAF8pJY which in element desktop&web comes after $i0jiAhChdUgIWrPxd3hiv8kqLsxLIiBw-CHT4PgZHEU, is causing the issue
