Description

Problem:
On mobile devices (both Android and iOS), Element and other Matrix clients do not support mTLS at all. Even if a client certificate is installed system-wide, the app does not use it when connecting to a homeserver that enforces client certificate authentication. As a result, any deployment that requires mTLS is currently inaccessible from mobile.

Why this matters:
mTLS is not a “nice-to-have” but a critical security feature, especially for high-security environments.
Without it, mobile clients cannot be used in setups that enforce certificate-based authentication.
This significantly limits Matrix adoption in security-conscious organizations.
