red overlay over chat area

### Steps to reproduce

1. Open element web in safari
2. Open a few other tabs in safari and only use them for a while
3. Switch back to the element tab and sometimes this red overlay appears

sometimes if you're patient, I have already seen the transition to the red overlay while looking at the chat, bat that's very rare, so I suspect it doesn't necessarily has something to do with switching browser tabs.

(I have added some black boxes over the messages to respect privacy).

It looks normal like the first visit

#### What happened instead?
A read overlay appeared over the chat area that only disappears when reloading the page, switching the chat to a different room or opening the browser console (without doing anything in there).
