Latest messages are shown for an instant then the view jumps back to past messages and stays stuck there

### Steps to reproduce

1. Start from a room or a DM.
2. Click on specific room to view it.
3. The latest messages in the room display for a fraction of a second, then the view jumps back in the past and stays stuck on past messages.

This is using Element Desktop as a flatpak. I know flatpak is not a supported install method, but this looks like it's happening entirely inside Element.

More details: this is triggered in odd ways: when fullscreened on a 2560×1440 display (external monitor), clicking on the room displays the latest message for a tenth of a second, then locks the view on past messages.
It doesn't seem to happen when the window is unmaximised.

When maximised on a 1080p screen (laptop), Element Desktop displays latest messages, but if i scroll back up i get stuck and can't go back down to the latest messages.
