Unexpected behavior of thread icon when reading a thread

### Steps to reproduce

1. Start reading a thread (e.g. by clicking on the thread summary in the main timeline).
2. Notice that there's another unread thread (via the dot on the thread icon):


3. Click on the thread icon.

### Outcome

#### What did you expect?

I expected to see the list of threads (so I can view unread threads).

#### What happened instead?

The right panel disappeared! Clicking the thread icon again, brings it back... but still on the thread I was reading instead of the thread list.
