crash when saving or sending a file from disk

### Steps to reproduce

1. receive a file
2. click download
3. wait for the dialogue to select the download directory to pop up
4. crash instead

From the sounds that my PC makes, this is related to having an old school spinny hard disk drive which mostly sleeps but will wake up when I open a graphical file explorer which tries to display recent files etc that includes said disk. Element crashes exactly when there is this second of waiting time and clear spin up sound, and not when e.g. I work around this by purposely spinning up the disk beforehand.
