Description

I have "Show previews/thumbnails for images" disabled, but these previews are only hidden.  A large, mostly empty space of the same height as the preview containing "Show image" is shown instead, and clicking this loads the preview inline.  The preview then loads every time that room is opened in the future regardless of the setting.  Audio files are always loaded inline immediately regardless of the setting.

I find it very hard to tolerate visual noise when trying to concentrate, and I've had disturbing audiovisual stuff shoved at me enough times that I get really anxious knowing that I won't be able to prevent it.  There's a lot of things that can't be turned off, but for a while I'd thought I could at least prevent embeds.  Apparently I hadn't ever uploaded or been sent any image or audio file until recently……

This is what I'd prefer:
Separate toggles for image thumbnails & file previews, and for hiding them until clicked.  Both would affect all files that can be embedded inline, not just images.
- If file previews are disabled, neither thumbnails or previews would ever be shown, and no space would be reserved for them.  Clicking the filename would bring up the fullscreen file-info overlay, and _only there_ would the file get embedded if possible.
- If preview hiding is enabled, you would get the current behavior, but they would return to their hidden state upon any kind of navigation away from the room the file was in.
