Lag and unresponsiveness when bulk deleting/redacting messages

### Steps to reproduce

1. Chat with friend like normal to create a long message history (> 10,000)
2. Since Element doesn't have self-destructing messages (message retention not enabled by default and still buggy), my friend and I take turns deleting our previous messages by scrolling up in chat and using the Remove recent messages feature for privacy's sake
3. Scroll up chat by holding down the PgUp button to load previous messages
4. Once thousands of messages are loaded, click Remove recent messages
5. UI will lag and become unresponsive
6. Room with many messages may become unusable because when you click into the room, it tries loading all the redaction events

### Outcome

#### What did you expect?
For there to be no lag when deleting message history. For Element/matrix to intelligently not load

#### What happened instead?
Rooms lag when deleting message history, and sometimes because unusable if too many messages were deleted
