Spinner while waiting for email verification is confusing

While trying to get several iOS users signed up on Riot, they encountered the "Please check your email for a verification link" prompt and a spinner. Most of them were confused because they thought the spinner meant that the app was trying to load something, so they didn't close it to go to their email.

Instead of a spinner, maybe just the text "Please check your email for a verification link. This page will refresh after you have verified your email" and no spinner.

This probably also applies to web and android.
