Space switcher (new layout) does not cache Spaces and folding state of nested spaces

The new space switcher is cumbersome to use because it sometimes need to load for a couple of secends until the space list is loaded.
Additionally it does not remember the folding state where i left off. As a consequence switching between a sub space and a first lvl space bakc and forth a lot is very unefficient.
