Question marks after a message don't show

Suppose I send the following message, where the Matrix user `@foobar:example.com` is replaced by the bubble representing the user:

What up @foobar:example.com?
```

In this case, the question mark doesn't show. If I hold onto the message so I can edit it, that new prompt *does* show the question mark, but the mention also gets deactivated if I save that exit.
