Element keeps spinning in chats where messages are gone

#### Describe the bug

After device change element keeps spinning/loading in a conversation where messages have been deleted on the server.

#### To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
1. Have a homeserver that deletes messages, e.g. after 30 days
2. Have a private conversation with somebody
3. Have the messages purged on the server
4. Change your device
5. The private conversation has a green bar to the left
6. If you click on the conversation, element just keeps spinning / loading something
7. The green bar stays
8. If you exchange messages, the green bar goes away and element also does not do the endless spinning anymore.

#### Expected behavior

The green bar and endless spinning is confusing
