Verification does not work on the matrix.org server

**Describe the bug**
Every time I try to verify a device, the verification popup just spins forever.

**To Reproduce**
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
1. Go to device to verify,
2. Click verify
3. Sometimes it will give a QR code, sometimes not. Even when it does, the QR verification fails every time.
4. If you get a QR code, click on "verify by emoji" (quickly before the whole thing fails).
5. Watch the "waiting to verify" thing spin forever.
6. This only happens when one or both users are on the matrix.org server.

**Expected behavior**
Expected behavior would be to see the emojis come up for comparison almost immediately as they do when using other servers.

**Additional context**
- App version: 1.04 from playstore
- Homeserver: matrix.org

This is a big problem because somebody traveled to another country and now cannot read my messaged. I can find NO way to verify him and I have had to create a new room to communicate with him. This also makes it very hard to bring people over from apps like Wire and Signal that are well encrypted but also just work.
