**Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.**
Currently the hepmc merger allows up to 4 background sources. But long term, there could be addition of more types of backgrounds that needs to be studied. In that case, we will need to add an argument for each type of background which can become tedious. Should we consider a breaking change in the UI or keep things in the current status quo?
