handling binary responses

With the changes of version 1.2 I'm wondering if there a way to get the binary data of a response? Perhaps you could think about passing the body as a byte streams through the ResponseImpl as well. For being able to handle some binary encoded responses (exi,gzip) this would be very useful. Or is there another way I'm missing?
