Description

As discussed in https://github.com/eclipse/xtext-extras/pull/91 we should create an compiler option to reintroduce the synthetic variables to get better debugging support. The default should be the less verbose variant that is currently on master.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the discussion in pull request #91 and comparing the current compiler behavior on master. Identify where compiler options and synthetic variables are handled; done means an option can restore the synthetic variables for debugging while the default remains the current less verbose behavior.
