Paintbrush [Mac Paint] are there better Open Source Alternatives in 2022?

Whenever I need to `edit` an image (e.g: screenshot) to illustrate a specific section/element, my `GOTO` is **`Paintbrush`**.

I've had a _brief_ look at https://github.com/jaywcjlove/awesome-mac but nothing jumped out at me.
