New content notifications should never interrupt reading

When apps auto-focus on new content - even while in the middle of reading elsewhere - it _really_ gets on my nerves. Instagram does it by auto-scrolling users to the top whenever there's new content :rage:.

A much better solution is small notifications, for example a 'new content' link coupled with a down arrow. Obviously when the user's already at the bottom the content _should_ force scroll.
