# ⚠️ WARNING: this issue is "Work in Progress" ... 🚧 🏗

Please _ignore_ this issue. I will be "fleshing it out" shortly ...

## Client-Specific _Use-case_

At present the Club Soda website has a _relatively_ long (_base_) URL https://joinclubsoda.co.uk/

![image](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/194400/46191328-06b07500-c2ef-11e8-8899-1826424c44f1.png)

The "_Guide_" Website/App that we are re-building: https://clubsodaguide.com
![image](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/194400/46194281-de2d7880-c2f8-11e8-8db9-a0866241c96d.png)

It means that when they share a link on their _sosh_ https://twitter.com/joinclubsoda
it's almost always _super_ long and gets cut-off:

This is not a "_big_" problem. (_**Meta**: so I might not even **mention** it!_)
What _is_ a big problem is that _clicks_ on the links are _not_ being tracked/captured effectively.

## Tracking _Out_-bound Links

Yes, we _can_ track clicks on out-bound links using _custom_ GTM event: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1136920
But this _should_ be done _automatically_.

## _Suggestion_

Visit: https://iwantmyname.com and enter _short_ keywords or abbreviations
and see what _short_ domains are available.
e.g: soda.gd ("soda good")

![image](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/194400/46188249-eb8a3900-c2df-11e8-9555-ecca7856c282.png)

or

We probably cannot go _too_ short without complete loss of meaning.
We want the short link to be _somewhat_ "on brand", although for the most part,

Sadly, soda.club is "taken" (_that was my first thought_)

## "_Cons_" to Using a Short URL for _In_-bound Links?

There are _two_ potential "_downsides_" to this approach:

### 1. "Dilution" of the DWYL "Brand"?

#### _Counter_ Argument

### 2. "Loss of SEO"

#### _Mitigation_
