Description

Details of the scenario you tried and the problem that is occurring:

The availability group property BasicAvailabilityGroup is available on sql server 2016 or later on a Standard Edition only. If the parameter on this resource is set to True and that the sql instance is 2016 Enterprise or Developper, an error is raised and the availability is not created.

The resource should probably control the Edition before attempting to apply this feature.

Version of the Operating System, SQL Server and PowerShell the DSC Target Node is running:
SQL SERVER 2016 OR LATER

What module (SqlServer or SQLPS) and which version of the module the DSC Target Node is running:
sqlserver

Version of the DSC module you're using, or 'dev' if you're using current dev branch:
dev

Research direction

Start by locating the SqlServerDsc resource handling the BasicAvailabilityGroup parameter and review how SQL Server editions are detected. Reproduce the scenario on SQL Server 2016 Enterprise or Developer Edition. Done means the resource handles the unsupported combination without raising the reported error and the availability group behavior is covered by the relevant tests.
