LoggedInTemplate code behind

What is needed is an example that also shows a button or two (with button click events) and also maybe a grid view inside the LoggedInTemplate section. I would like to understand how a more involved LoggedInTemplate needs to be coded up. Every contrived example thus far does not relate to how an actual web site interface is used.
