Investigate use of `LoadingIndicator` for small intervals

Description
When using the loading indicator for very small loading times it shows / hides so quickly that it looks like a glitch rather than a loading indicator.
We should consider alternatives and or not showing the indicator for such small intervals. This may be possible via css.
