Description

In order to avoid retrieving useless data from the server, when the only need is to get stats about a given file/directory, it might be interesting to use only a HEAD http verb instead of a GET.

It seems that HEAD verb is not supported yet in the core of docker-py.

Research direction

Start by locating the get_archive entry point in the Python library and trace how its HTTP request is constructed. Check how request methods are selected, then verify that using HEAD for file or directory statistics avoids retrieving the archive data.
