png unviewable when using ubuntu/chromium

Chromium Version 71.0.3578.98 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)
Ubuntu 18.04.1
On https://map-printer.ddem.us, I was able to successfully download a png map with 10k x 10k px, which resulted in a 7.5MB file.
However, on my machine I was able to open it in Chromium, but I wasn't able to open the png file in other programs, like image viewer or firefox, getting this error:

Research direction
Reproduce the PNG export at https://map-printer.ddem.us using Ubuntu 18.04.1 and Chromium 71, then test the downloaded 10k × 10k PNG in Chromium, Firefox, and an image viewer. Trace the export path from the browser entry point; done means the generated PNG opens in the other reported programs.
