'type' folder layout changed and unable to import type for ethers.

I am using the [hardhat-template](https://github.com/PaulRBerg/hardhat-template) from @PaulRBerg which "since a while" shows some strange behaviour, putting some generated files in subdirectories, but some not.
Does somebody have an idea if there is some configuration which may cause that ?
