Improve UX for configuring external code editor

The UX for configuring an external code editor could use some work.

On macOS, users will get a hostile error message if they set the path to an app bundle instead of referring to the actual executable within it. Perhaps we could locate the actual executable within automatically?

In the future it would be nice if we provided pre-configured command-lines for popular editors that you could maybe select from a dropdown or something.
