AssertionError: Unable to pre-compile ops without torch installed. Please install torch before attempting to pre-compile ops.

note: This error originates from a subprocess, and is likely not a problem with pip.
ERROR: Failed to build 'deepspeed' when getting requirements to build wheel
btw, I've already installed torch with pip.

Research direction
The report contains a pip build log for deepspeed 0.19.6 on Python 3.14.6 with DS_BUILD_OPS=1; start by checking whether torch is importable in pip's isolated build environment. Compare installation behavior across supported Python versions and confirm whether the failure is caused by the build environment or Python 3.14 compatibility. Done means the cause and a reproducible installation path are established.
