Can't drag assets onto the inspector when UI editor is selected

If the 2D tab is selected in the inspector, I can't drag and drop files into the scene, as I can with the 3D tab.

I might want to drag in an image to use in my UI, and to do that I have to momentarily switch to the 3D view and back to the 2D view.
