Switching off high quality processing has no (immediate) effect

Describe the bug

The result of some modules differs visibly in the main window dependent on HQP on or off. I used the D&S module, preset local contrast -> quick.

The issue is independent of the use of openCL..

1. start darktable, ensure HQP is off, close again
2. start again from terminal window with -d perf
3. open image
4. turn HQP on -> image changes visibly, in the terminal you see that a pipe run was triggered
5. turn HPQ off -> image does not change back, not a single line is written into the terminal (no pipe run). The toggle itself changes to inactive state/greyed though.

With release 5.6.0, after step 5 the image changes back, and you can see a pipe run in the terminal.

Start by reproducing the issue with the D&S module's “local contrast -> quick” preset, HQP toggling, and -d perf, comparing the behavior with darktable 5.6.0. Trace why enabling HQP triggers a pipe run while disabling it does not; done means the image updates back and a corresponding pipe run is shown after HQP is turned off.
