Darktable overrides xmp files from already edited pictures when importing

Describe the bug

I edited a picture a while ago (5 months) and wanted to import it again. When I did so, Darktable overrides the xmp file of the image while importing, so there is no more edit history. I was importing only this one image. I checked the option "check for new xmp files on start".
Another thing to add: When trying to load the correct (old) xmp file via "load xmp file" it also gets overwritten.

Steps to reproduce

1. Go to "import"
2. Choose the image
3. Import it
   -> Darktable overrides the xmp file (its blank, no edit history) as it would be a never edited picture

Expected behavior

Darktable should load the edit history of the already existing xmp file and not override it

Start by reproducing the Windows 10 case through the Import workflow with the existing XMP file, then repeat it using “load xmp file.” Compare the attached old XMP with the file after each operation; done means importing or loading an already edited picture preserves its edit history instead of overwriting the XMP.
