Cannot read xmp files

Describe the bug

I was making edits when darktable but crashed. Normally, this is not a problem. I just restart dt, and everything works again. But this time I tried opening my library, but the files seemed in some way corrupted, meaning it still showed that they were in the library, but they were not loading anymore. I tried removing the library - didn't work. I deleted the config files - didn't work. Now every time I try to import my photos with the xmp files, it shows the message that it cannot read the xmp files and in dt now is very slow and everytime I try to do something, almost instanly freezes. Please help

Start at darktable's photo import and XMP-reading path, using the reporter's affected images and XMP files to investigate the failure. Collect reproduction details and logs, then confirm that the library imports the images, reads their XMP files, and no longer freezes during normal actions.
