Describe the bug

I recently updated darktable to 5.4. I imported new photos. When I select a collection -> folder which contains a lot of photos, my entire system (Windows 11) crashes immediately and completely and reboots as if the computer was just powered on.

Steps to reproduce
  1. In collections module, click on a folder containing 10,000+ photos

Research direction

Start by reproducing the crash in the Collections module by selecting a folder containing more than 10,000 photos on Windows 11 with OpenCL disabled. Investigate the resulting system reboot and determine the relevant failure evidence; done means the folder can be selected without crashing the system and the fix is covered by an appropriate regression test.
