Research direction

First reproduce the startup flow with “look for updated XMP files on startup window” enabled on Linux, using the reported steps and checking the updated XMP sidecar files found window. Trace the startup dialog’s window focus and stacking behavior; done means the dialog remains over the darktable main window after startup.
