Description
Is there an existing issue for this?
- I checked and did not find my issue in the already reported ones
Describe the bug
The thumbnails in the darkrooms filmstrip seem to use the embedded jpeg until the image is edited after the initial import. Only then the thumbnail actually represents the main preview and the darkroom seems to ignore the thumbnails generated in the lighttable after import.
Steps to reproduce
Import some photos
Go to darktable
Skip through them e.g. by using the spacebar; observe how the currently opened photo is represented correctly in the filmstrip while it's neighbours show the embedded jpeg
Make some change to a module; go to next photo; observe how the thumbnail now represents the edit.
Expected behavior
I would expect the darkrooms thumbnails to match the previews generated on the lighttable

Note: "use raw file instead of embedded jpeg from size" is set to "always" and previews on the lighttable show the raw-preview, not the jpeg preview.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the behavior in darktable's darkroom and lighttable: import photos, compare filmstrip thumbnails while moving with the spacebar, and edit one image to observe the change. Trace how the darkroom filmstrip obtains thumbnails versus the lighttable previews; done means thumbnails consistently match the raw previews before any edit.
