Description
Is there an existing issue for this?
- I checked and did not find my issue in the already reported ones
Describe the bug
When scrolling through the contents of side panels in lighttable (any panel with enough contents to be scrollable: collections > folder, collections > tag, tagging > list of available tags, list of already applied tags, styles), the contents jump forward or back every couple of rows, as though the list is snapping to some target. This is using the trackpad on a MacBook Air. I have not seen any other program exhibit this behavior.
Steps to reproduce
- Go to lighttable
- Click on collections > tag
- Expand any nested groups of tags until the content is scrollable (length of the list exceeds the height of the pane)
- Scroll up/down slowly
Expected behavior
contents of the pane should scroll as smoothly as the thumbnail grid does

Please provide additional context if applicable. You can attach files too, but might need to rename to .txt or .zip
Behavior existed in 5.0.1 as well.
Tried increasing/decreasing the height of the panes, as well as toggling both “mouse wheel scrolls modules sidepanel” and “enable smooth scrolling for lighttable thumbnails” - none of these helped.
This behavior seems similar to the following issues:
#18349
#18802
I normally run lua scripts "external editors" "image time" "open in explorer" - disabling these seemed to have no effect.
The issue is still present when running darktable --configdir "/tmp"

Research direction
Start by reproducing the jumpy scrolling in the lighttable side panels, especially Collections > tag, using the reported macOS and trackpad setup. Trace the side-panel scrolling behavior and compare it with the smooth thumbnail-grid scrolling; the issue is done when the listed scrollable panels move smoothly without jumping forward or backward.
