Should the screen reader announce when the page changes?

Hello everyone, many digital reading solutions feature ‘Previous page’ and ‘Next page’ buttons that allow you to move to the previous or next page.

However, the page change is not obvious to screen reader users, especially if the focus remains on the ‘Previous page’ or ‘Next page’ button (which makes sense, as users might want to skip forwards or backwards through several pages).

Would it be advisable to include a status message informing the user that the current page has been updated, or would this risk interfering with the reading of the content?
