I'm leaving this here in case downstream packages have questions as to why they are getting migrated at this moment.

The PR was merged, but it never really worked.

I am proposing to revert this change.
It seems that the source code may need some editing (see discussion in #15 ) to avoid accessing the Python internal C api to ensure it is compatible with PyPy.
