Ability to rename / alias shared devices

I am collecting an increasing number of people's devices while trying to help, and while they are generally willing to update the name for me, it seems like they shouldn't have to.

It would be nice if I could setup an alias for shared devices.

Start by locating the shared-device list and the code that displays or updates device names. Determine where an alias can be stored and which views should show it without changing the device owner's name; done means a shared device can be assigned and displayed with a local alias.
