Description

String source = "\n" +
" AnnotationsBasedJMXAutoExporter\n" +
" org.springframework.jmx.export.MBeanExporter\n" +
" false\n" +
" assembler\n" +
" \n" +
"";
XpathSelector selector = new XpathSelector("//id[starts-with(text(),'Annotations')]");
selector.selectList(source);

Above Throws NullPointerException, but fine with xpathStr="//id[starts-with(@id,'Annotations')]"

Research direction

Start with the XpathSelector entry point and its selectList call using the XML and starts-with(text(),'Annotations') reproducer shown here. Compare it with the working @id expression and trace the failure; done means the text-based starts-with XPath no longer throws a NullPointerException and selects the expected element.
