Description
⚬ PROBLEM:
I don't mind ads, it makes me feel like watching traditional TV, with one exception - the mid-roll and overlay ads. The midroll ads breaks the flow of the video (often mid-speech / breaking the immersion) and the overlay ads offsets the subtitles, causing them to be centered almost in the middle of the video - blocking video content (especially when the video uses overlaid text as part of the content).
⚬ SOLUTION:
A more refined option to control how ads are displayed. An option to block all ads or choose between pre-roll ads, mid-roll ads (including overlay ads) and banner ads (ads that show on the page, not the player).
⚬ ALTERNATIVES:
Blocking all ads works fine, but as I often participate in market research and surveys, they rely on me to be exposed to advertising so that I can better respond to them and earn their incentives.
⚬ RELEVANCE / SCOPE:
I can't give an estimate, but this would be suitable for those who'd like to watch youtube like a TV, while still supporting content creators.

Research direction
The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Clarify the intended controls for pre-roll, mid-roll, overlay, and banner ads before locating the relevant player and settings code; done would require an agreed behavior for each ad category.
