Description
I create issues with feature requests and improvements (not often). Every time other contributors comment that they would like to work on a specific issue that I opened.
Currently only maintainers can assign people to issues. It would be very convenient for me if I could assign an issue myself to a person who volunteers to implement it. This would make it immediately clear who is working on the task and would help me better organize my own requests.
Would it be possible to grant me the ability to assign issues?

No source files, tests, or entry points are mentioned. Start by reviewing GitHub's issue-assignment permissions for contributors and the repository's maintainer settings. Done means determining whether the requested permission can be granted and documenting or applying the appropriate access change.
