### Documented ecosystem gap

Across the CNCF and Linux Foundation communities, a growing number of contributors, end users, vendors, and policy practitioners work in or support Public Sector organizations. These organizations must adopt cloud native technologies while meeting requirements that are not consistently addressed through existing CNCF forums, including NIST guidance, FIPS, Common Criteria, government authorization frameworks, data sovereignty, supply chain security, accessibility, procurement, and multinational interoperability standards such as the Federated Mission Networking framework.

The outstanding gap is not just a technical one. Knowledge is often fragmented across jurisdictions, agencies, vendors, and individual projects, leading organizations to duplicate work and making it difficult for maintainers to understand common Public Sector adoption barriers.

The Public Sector User Group will bring these stakeholders together to document recurring requirements and use cases, share implementation experience, identify gaps in the cloud native ecosystem, and communicate consolidated user feedback to CNCF projects and the broader community. Its primary role will be to improve collaboration and help Public Sector needs inform upstream Cloud Native communities.

### Scope and overlap

The primary scope for the proposed Public Sector User Group aims to serve as a hub for discussing and advancing cloud computing within the public sector, utilizing cloud native technologies. This includes enumerating current practices and identifying gaps. The group also directs efforts to improve public sector workflows relevant to the cloud computing ecosystem.

We have currently have not found or determined overlap within other UGs, TAGs, or TOC groups but we intend to continue to try to establish ourselves as a collaborative UG that will coordinate and collaborate with other groups.

The Public Sector User Group will maintain a Public facing GitHub, we currently have been hosting bi-weekly events since 2023 and meetings have been recorded on the LFX Platform.
