O'Reilly Book

Discussed over beers at post-CKANcon get-together:

CKAN documentation is getting better, but the project needs an O'Reilly book sponsored by the CKAN Association. Sales of the book will help support CKAN Association operations.

It should not only cover installation and core extensions, but as well as extension development, scheming schemas, geospatial integration, best practices, ETL and how to connect to the coming federated CKAN network ;)

And I nominate plankton for the cover (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plankton#/media/File:Hyperia.jpg), signifying the fact that data is a foundation of the open data ecosystem. It may be at the bottom of the food chain, but without it, the ecosystem cannot be. :) (see http://www.oreilly.com/animals.html for O'Reilly's animal menagerie).

Start by reviewing the CKAN documentation and the proposed coverage: installation, core extensions, extension development, schemas, geospatial integration, ETL, best practices, and the federated CKAN network. The issue does not name files, tests, or an implementation entry point; done would require an agreed book scope and sponsorship plan with the CKAN Association.
