Description
Every operating system has /etc/os-release now. We can just parse this and get the platform family from there instead of checking different files on disk and guessing.

Research direction
Start by locating the gather-logs entry point and reading how it currently checks files and guesses the platform family. Review the linked os_release project and its possible values before tracing the existing tests. Done means gather-logs derives the platform family from /etc/os-release instead of checking separate files, with relevant tests passing.
