searching for anything only works by pressing the enter key

### Bug description

If you go and open the search panel, paste maybe a link or write an account name and click on the magnifing glass at the right of the input field, or perhaps click on any of the proposed search link which appear below the input field, nothing works.

The only way to actually get a search result is by pressing the "enter" key.

Reproduce the issue at https://fedi.woodpeckersnest.space in the search panel, then trace the magnifying-glass and suggested-search click paths alongside the working Enter-key path. Done means clicking the icon or a proposed search link returns the same search result as pressing Enter in Firefox and Brave.
