Description

When we map reads to a protein-specific region, the reads drop off slightly as they get close to the outer edges. In order to get maximum coverage for the actual protein coding region, we should extend the mapping reference sequences by a few bases off either end.

Research direction

The issue names no files or tests. Start by locating where protein-specific mapping reference sequences are built, then verify that references extend by a few bases on both ends and that coverage near the coding-region edges improves.
